Two projectiles, launched at the same instant with the same upward speed but different forward speeds. They rise together. They reach the top at the same moment. They land at the same moment. And they land in completely different places. That is the whole idea: the upward speed decides the time and the height, the forward speed decides the distance, and neither one touches the other.
One slider sets the upward speed for both balls at once. Two more set the forward speed of ball A and ball B separately. Press Play to launch. Pause anywhere mid-flight to compare their positions. Gravity is fixed at 10. Reset unlocks the sliders.
Both balls carry velocity arrows, with the same vᵧ and different vₓ. A dashed line runs between them while they are in the air, so the gap between them is always visible. Pause and it tells you how big that gap is. The height measure appears when they reach the top. Both range measures appear when they land. The panel shows the flight time, the maximum height, and both ranges.
No air resistance. Both launched from the ground at the same time. The upward speed cannot be different for the two balls — that is deliberate.
You should be able to say which launch speed decides the time in the air, and which one decides the distance.
